Faster looks like it belongs in another era. The 1970s – and directed by ‘Bloody’ Sam Peckinpah. Dwayne Johnson ditches The Tooth Fairy costume and has raced away from Witch Mountain to portray a man on the carnage-strewn road to revenge. He plays Driver and judging from this new red band US trailer – he doesn’t mess around. More shoots people stone cold dead. Capiche?

At this point in time it is difficult to say whether it’ll be a cult classic or a high class attempt at nothing more than a Steven Segal movie. This writer really hopes it’s the former – and definitely not the latter. It’s got a Clint Mansell score, so that adds to its credentials, surely?

Joining Dwayne Johnson for the ride is Billy Bob Thornton, Maggie Grace (probably being kidnapped – again), Carla Gugino and Tom Berenger. Directing is George Tillman Jr.

I suggest the poster tagline should be: ‘Faster, Dwayne Johnson! Kill Kill!’

Synopsis:

After 10 years in prison, Driver (Dwayne Johnson) has a singular focus – to avenge the murder of his brother during the botched robbery that led to his imprisonment. Now a free man with a deadly to-do list in hand, he’s finally on his mission…but with two men on his trail – veteran cop (Billy Bob Thornton) just days from retirement, and a young egocentric hitman (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) with a flair for the art of killing and a newfound worthy opponent. The hunter is also the hunted. It’s a do or die race to the list’s finish as the mystery surrounding his brother’s murder deepens, and new details emerge along the way hinting that Driver’s list may be incomplete.
