David Tennant Cast As Peter Vincent In Fright Night

This is a marvellous piece of casting news (via Heat Vision Blog) if ever there was any. Former Doctor Who star, David Tennant, has signed up to play the role of a much younger version of Peter Vincent in the remake of Fright Night. He’s no longer a former horror movie star but now a Vegas magician on hard times. He’ll be joined by none other than Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Evil Ed.

Earlier in the week, Marti Noxon gave Variety some little snippets of information the most important one revealing the film has moved away from its suburban America setting to the razzle-dazzle of La Vegas. Moviehole ran a couple of character/casting descriptions back in May that reveal some crucial facts about this forthcoming, Craig Gillespie-directed, horror flick. They do contain spoilers…so avert your eyes if you don’t want to know anything. For the rest of us:

Evil Ed – ‘Evil Ed’ is an emo…. or a comic-book loving punk. ‘Ed’ believes he and Charlie’s pal Adam has gone missing. Adam, you see, hasn’t been answering his text messages because he and his family have been slaughtered by vampires. Even when Ed discovers the truth, that vampires killed Adam and his family, nobody – not even Charlie, who suggests his friend has been watching too much “Twilight” – believes him. Ed is ultimately turned by the vampire ‘Jerry’ into a black-eyed, sharp toothed monster (not even Peter’s “crucification nails” are a match for him).

Peter Vincent – TVs ‘Master of Illusion’. Really knows his vampires – has had a history with them. Huge fan base. Lives in a Penthouse. Has an assistant, Arthur. When Ed infiltrates his home, he and Charlie are forced to hide out in the ‘Panic Room’. Serves as somewhat of a Yoda-figure to Charlie – especially near the pictures’ end, when Charlie needs to save Peter.

All in all this could be a brilliant film. Can’t wait to see it. David Tennant and Christopher Mintz-Plasse join Colin Farrell, Toni Colette and Anton Yelchin.
