Zac Efron: Action Hero

Commercial and music video director, Fredrik Bond has signed on to helm Mandate Pictures’ untitled romantic action movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The script has been written by Matt Drake and if reports are to be believed, the film could be starring a certain Wild Cat, who otherwise goes by the name of Zac Efron.

Apparently, while the project is currently “untitled”, it was once called The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman, in the film Efron will be getting his first foray into the action genre following a slew of dramas and comedies since leaving the “High School Musical” franchise, including “Charlie St. Cloud“, “17 Again” and “Me and Orson Welles“.

Efron will play a suburban teen who travels to Eastern Europe to “find himself”, according to the studio. While travelling he falls for a young woman and the only thing standing between them is her dangerous and violent ex-boyfriend who has ties to the criminal underworld. Not quite the Jason Bourne series then!

Bona Fide Productions’ Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa will produce the film alongside William Horberg, while Nathan Kahane and Dean Parisot are executive producing for Mandate. No word yet on co-stars or productions schedules, but we’ll keep you posted on further updates.
