Wes Craven On Board For Scream 4?
Note the question mark in the title, the question mark signifies that, while I’m hoping this rumour turns out to be true, it does require a man-size pinch of salt at the moment!
News on the fourth installment in the (once) popular Scream franchise has been hitting the net for months now, and while we can happily confirm the return of David Arquette, Courtney Cox and finally Neve Campbell, who exactly will be steering this thing has been something of a mystery.
Creator of the series, Wes Craven has previously been asked about whether he’d return to direct Scream 4 and at the time his response was what I’d describe as dubious and unexcited:
“Bob Weinstein has talked to me, he’s interested in me directing it. I had a brief conversation with Kevin [Williamson], I know that Kevin is writing. What I’ve said to Bob is I’m not closed to it, I’m not open to it, I’ll be perfectly happy to read a script and tell him what I think. That’s where it’s at and I’m not expecting a script until August. I don’t know what the premise is or anything.”
With that in mind, I was more than slightly surprised when CinemaBlend.com claimed (via an unnamed source), that the “Nightmare of Elm Street” and “The Last House on the Left” director would be returning to the hallowed chair one more time!
Despite this brazen claim, no details are given about the production, other than the fact that Neve Campbell’s role has been described as not very “big”. But hopefully, should this turn out to be true, with Wes Craven on board we may be able to look forward to a fantastic beginning for The Weinstein’s planned new trilogy!
