The new STAR TREK IS more than a prequel!

JJ Abrams has been saying for some time now that his new STAR TREK movie would not only be a prequel, but would be more than that.

Some of us (including me) presumed this movie would be a reboot of the franchise, a reboot that I really welcomed.

But it turns out that this movie isn’t a reboot at all, Abrams, it seems, has bigger fish to fry.

Trek Movie have reported that the movie initially begins AFTER Star Trek Nemesis – bringing it in line with the other Trek movies.

According to their story:

The film starts in the post Star Trek Nemesis time frame. This is where we initially find the elder Spock (played by Leonard Nimoy).

So in a sense the film takes us from the end of the TNG era and brings us back to before the TOS era, showing the origins of Kirk and Spock and the crew of the NCC-1701.

Interesting? Kind of? Worrying is more the word I’d use. Why? Because if this movie had been a reboot, it would’ve been easier to go back to the beginning and tell a reimagining of a treasured story.

With this movie taking place before AND after other Trek movies, Abrams has little choice for sequels but to make them ALL prequels to everything we’ve seen so far.

Still, this could turn out to be a golden goose for Paramount, can’t wait for the first pics to start surfacing!
