Despicable Me – International Teaser Trailer

He’s the world’s #2 Supervillain and he’s taking over FilmShaft – well at least for the next 1:52 seconds. I’ve just been sent the international teaser trailer for Despicable Me, the latest animated thrill to emerge from Hollywood, courtesy of Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures.

To say the film has a star-studded cast is an understatement, featured among the vocal talents are the likes of Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Will Arnett, Kristen Wiig, Danny McBride, Miranda Cosgrove and Julie Andrews. The film doesn’t hit for a while yet – Summer/Autumn 2010 to be exact, but for now take joy in the fact that even villain’s have enemies, check out the trailer below and you’ll see what I mean!

despicable_me02In a happy suburban neighbourhood surrounded by white picket fences with flowering rose bushes, sits a black house with a dead lawn. Unbeknownst to the neighbours, hidden beneath this home is a vast secret hideout. Surrounded by a small army of minions, we discover Gru (voiced by Steve Carell), planning the biggest heist in the history of the world. He is going to steal the moon (Yes, the moon!) in Universal’s new 3-D CGI feature, Despicable Me.

Gru delights in all things wicked. Armed with his arsenal of shrink rays, freeze rays, and battle-ready vehicles for land and air, he vanquishes all who stand in his way. Until the day he encounters the immense will of three little orphaned girls who look at him and see something that no one else has ever seen – a potential Dad.

The world’s greatest villain has just met his greatest challenge: three little girls named Margo, Edith and Agnes.

Major Spoilers From The Doctor Who Set

Have you heard about this year’s drought warning? No not the weather, the limited supply of Doctor Who and Torchwood being drip-fed to the British public this year, still at least it’s better than going cold turkey right?

If you can’t wait for your next installment from David Tennant’s tenth Doctor then continue reading for the spoilerish goodness below, if you’d rather not know then I suggest you look away now!

io9 had the scoop from the Doctor Who set where they’re currently filming the last two feature length episodes of 2009. The two episodes in question are thought to be one long, arching storyline which sees Tennant’s Doctor finished off for good, paving the way for Matt Smith to take up the mantle as the eleventh Doctor in 2010.

The scoop itelf comes in picture form, the image features John Simm (who played The Master in season 3 of the new look series) and Timothy Dalton (in some very spiffy looking threads) stood alongside Tennant. Rumours have been abound for some time that The Master would be making a triumphant return in time to finish of The Doctor, and if this image is what I think it is then I think we’ve just had that rumour confirmed.

As for Dalton, the robes do look very Timelord-like, and the common train of thought seems to be that he will be playing the Chancellor of the High Council of Time Lords. Could this be an unholy alliance between The Master and another Timelord? Unfortunately you’ll have to wait until November to find out, until then check out the video below:

Michael Bay Not Convinced By 3D Conversion

You’d expect Michael Bay to be a zealot for 3D, but turns out he sees it as nothing more than a gimmick. Talking at ShoWest and reported by Slash Film, Bay set out to stir controversy and stick the boot into studios who are clamouring to put their movies out in 3D after they’ve been filmed already – so that’ll be Clash of the Titans then. Bay, who could be described as an auteur – if auteur cinema was devised by Don Simpson, seems far from convinced by the merits of 3D. In his own unique way, Bay had this to say:

“I shoot complicated stuff, I put real elements into action scenes and honestly, I am not sold right now on the conversion process. Right now, it looks like fake 3D, with layers that are very apparent. You go to the screening room, you are hoping to be thrilled, and you’re thinking, huh, this kind of sucks. People can say whatever they want about my movies, but they are technically precise, and if this isn’t going to be excellent, I don’t want to do it. This conversion process is always going to be inferior to shooting in real 3D. Studios might be willing to sacrifice the look and use the gimmick to make $3 more a ticket, but I’m not. Avatar took four years. You can’t just shit out a 3D movie. I’m saying, the jury is still out.”

Michael Bay just went up in my estimations… a little bit… let’s not go nuts. Wonder if Transformers 3 will be released and Bay will be eating his words and saying he was misquoted!
