Clash Of The Titans To Be Released In 3D (Harry Potter too!)

Yep. Just last week we reported on how the suits at Warner Bros. ordered Clash Of The Titans to have some cosmetic film treatment and be converted into 3D. Well, Heat Vison Blog are saying it’s been such a success they’re pushing back the film’s release to 2nd April in order to get ship shape and Bristol fashion. There’s been no official word, but don’t let that stop you! Rumor has it the execs at Warner are so enamored with the results they’re all shuffling around Howard Hughes-like muttering, “It’s the way of the future.”

They clearly think so because the world’s favorite wizard (no, not Gandalf Stormcrow), Harry Potter will be having his swan song put out in 3D – both parts! There was always going to be some serious coinage reaped from the last film. But now there’s the added thrill of 3D. The techno boffins are rushing to convert the first part of The Deathly Hallows for its 19th November release. The final part follows in the summer of 2011. So they’ll be tears as well as whoops of amazement at Harry’s head in 3D… probably.

Now what to make of 3D. Was the 1950s technology just too ahead of its time, or is it still a load of gimmicky nonsense that is quite distracting? I like to think cinema is a broad church and art form, so why not have all kinds of it?

Halo Movie Nearing Green-Light

Steven Spielberg is in active negotiations to produce the big screen adaptation of HALO, based on the video game of the same name. IESB learned last week that Spielberg is “blown away” by the writer Stuart Beattie’s treatment entitled HALO: THE FALL OF REACH.

While Spielberg is currently in negotiations over the producing the film, the Halo project has previously suffered major hurdles in it’s quest for the green light, with “District 9″ director Neill Blomkamp and Peter Jackson previously failing to bring the property to the big screen at 20th Century Fox and Universal. But this recent development involving Spielberg is rock solid, according to the IESB:

IESB has learned exclusively (believe me this is solid and I’ve confirmed it three times over with studio executives and our close ties to CAA) that one of the biggest producers in Hollywood history is currently in active negotiations to develop the feature film adaptation and no it’s not Jerry Bruckheimer or Peter Jackson. It’s the man behind Jaws, E.T., Indiana Jones and Transformers, Mr. Steven Spielberg.

Spielberg is blown away by writer Stuart Beattie’s take on the game in his script entitled HALO THE FALL OF REACH. This coupled with the fact that his Dream works umbrella is looking for a big tent pole to help launch their newly independent studio with distribution over at Walt Disney Pictures after losing Transformers to Paramount in the separation, it’s the perfect combination.

With Spielberg as producer, the question must now be – who would direct this monster property? Could Spielberg also sit in the director’s chair?

Battle: Los Angeles Trailer Song Title Revealed

Who wasn’t blown away by the Battle: Los Angeles teaser trailer last Friday? It knocked us for six and most of all because of the eerie juxtaposition between imagery and music. That sad, electronic voice singing over scenes of destruction was highly unexpected and lead me to watching the trailer four times in a row.

Now we can reveal who wrote the song and you can watch the full six minute music video that accompanies it. The title is The Sun’s Gone Dim and the Sky Turned Black and performed by Icelandic musician Johann Johannsson from the 2006 album 1401: A User’s Manual. Bet this will be a bit of a breakout hit now, at least it’ll get the dude some recognition.

Whoever decided to use the track for the trailer deserves some plaudits. Jonathan Liebeman’s Battle: Los Angeles is released around the world from March 2011. I’m calling it ‘Apocalypse Wow’. If you haven’t seen the new international trailer check it out here and the excellent teaser here

Synopsis:

For years, there have been documented cases of UFO sightings around the world — Buenos Aires, Seoul, France, Germany, China. But in 2011, what were once just sightings will become a terrifying reality when Earth is attacked by unknown forces. As people everywhere watch the world’s great cities fall, Los Angeles becomes the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected. It’s up to a Marine staff sergeant (Aaron Eckhart) and his new platoon to draw a line in the sand as they take on an enemy unlike any they’ve ever encountered before.
