New Moon Music Video Plus Michael Sheen Speaks

Michael-Sheen-Aro-croppedSo it’s TWO updates for The Twilight Saga: New Moon today readers! First up, supremo actor Michael Sheen has been talking about his part in the highly anticipated sequel again and then for our second treat – we have the brand new music video from Death Cab for Cutie, their new single as featured in New Moon – Meet Me on the Equinox!

Michael Sheen (Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, The Damned United) spoke to USA Today about his recent vampiric transformation, when asked why he took on the role of Volturi head honcho, Aro, Sheen simply quipped:

“I wanted to see how the other half lived,” Sheen explains with a grin. “Or unlived.”

Sheen is no stranger to the supernatural, having played Lycan (werewolf) leader Lucian in all three films of the Underworld series, so finally shedding his fur in favour of fangs would have made a very nice change. However, the truth is that Sheen’s 10 year old daughter with Underworld co-star Kate Beckinsale had more to do with it than just a shiny pair of fangs:

“She is very, very into the books. I know how obsessive she was about them, so I was already predisposed wanting to be in it.”

“What it has tapped into, at least in the first book, is how it feels to fall in love for the first time. I don’t think you have to be a girl to relate to that.

“The second book captures the utter desolation of losing that first love. I went through that myself, and Stephenie Meyer invokes that brilliantly.”

More specifically, the actor also went discussed his own thoughts about his character, Aro:

“I suppose the Volturi are like the royal family of vampires, and while he is more their spokesperson in the books, he is their leader in the film. He’s got a sort of regality about him.

“I like the way director Chris Weitz describes him. On the surface, he is very charming and very warm, sort of likable and soft. But underneath, you get the sense he is a psychopathic killer. I love playing with that idea.”

Good stuff indeed, however there is also a second treat today as I’ve already mentioned. A little band that some call Death Cab for Cutie have released their new single, Meet Me on the Equinox. And as all Twi-hards know, the thing to remember about Meet Me on the Equinox is that it features in The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

As always, MTV’s crappy video player won’t play outside of the US, so having found another source for the video I have a copy that you can watch worldwide below, keep an eye out for the previously unseen footage too!
