New Line Think They Know What Boys Want – They Don’t

selena_gomez2000’s What Women Want was admittedly, a very enjoyable film. The mix of Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt onscreen was magic and the idea that for once men would be able to truly understand women was an idea that appealed to all of my female friends instantly.

That does not, however, give New Line Cinema, Amy Andelson and Emily Meyer carte blanche to play with the idea. Turning the “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” premise into a prepubescent “fluffy” outing is not my idea of a decent followup but then again – nobody asked me did they?

Moaning aside, New Line have indeed green lit WHAT BOYS WANT, which as I’m sure you’ve already guessed, sees a teenage girl develop the unique ability to hear what the boys in school are thinking. The unfortunate thing about this (in my view) is that most boys of that age are generally thinking about humping anything with a pulse, and with said girl in eye-shot I would imagine that their thoughts wouldn’t actually be anything she’d want to hear!

Kevin Misher has been signed on to produce the comedy which was written by Andelson and Meyer and 17-year-old Selena Gomez (The Wizards of Waverly Place) is in final negotiations. Joy!
