Marc Webb To Direct New Spider-Man?

81058_largeWhat a week it’s been for Sony and the Spider-Man franchise. No sooner has Sam Raimi and his gang been fired, Sony are courting a new director! According to Deadline Hollywood, 500 Days of Summer’s Marc Webb has met with the producers to discuss the project. So yeah, they’ve ditched a brilliant and unique filmmaker for a music video kid.

500 Days of Summer was a nice spin on the rom-com, but does this mean Webb is capable of crafting a massive movie such as Spider-Man 4? Sure he’s got a spider-like name, but it’s a big ask. And it won’t be Spider-Man 4, because it’s going back to school with Peter Parker: The Early Years (or something like that). Is John “Malkatraz” Malkovich still attached to play the villain? Who knows? There is another rumour afoot that Spidey is going 3D for his new adventure.

Expect the news on this to keep on rolling. There’s lots to discuss really. Who will be the new Peter Parker/Spider-Man? Things must have been unworkable for Raimi and co to walk. Perhaps now, Raimi fans, we’ll get to see Evil Dead 4! So look on the bright side.

The new Spider-Man film will be released in May 2012 (according to Sony)
