Coen Brothers To Remake True Grit

Coen BrothersBloody remakes. They pop up everywhere don’t they, and more often than not they are completely shit. Which leads me on to the Coen Brothers and their new project. The siblings have been working on making a remake of the iconic 1969 western True Grit for some time now.

For those of you not familiar with the original film it has one of John Wayne’s finest performances. He won the Oscar that year for his portrayal of ‘Rooster’ Cogburn. The story followed a trio of mismatched men help a young woman track down her fathers’ killer.

Now normally I would be very cynical about any remake and it’s not like the Coen Brothers haven’t ruined a classic before. Anybody remember their ill-fated version of The Ladykillers?

Jeff-Bridges-as-The-Dude--001However, this remake could be something special indeed. Reports suggest that Jeff Bridges has already been cast and the buzz is that Josh Brolin and Matt Damon will join him. To make the situation even sweeter we also have the added selling point of none other than Steven Spielberg himself producing.

Coens, Bridges, Brolin, Damon and a little help provided by a certain Mr Spielberg must surely make this a must see, remake or not.

Throw in the fact that True Grit is a western and it only gets better. We all know what the Coens can achieve within this genre.

This can’t fail… can it?
