Cameron Is King Of The World…Again

avatar-movie-stillAvatar has been out three weeks and looks set to re-crown its director James Cameron as King of the World. The sci-fi screamer is set to knock The Dark Knight of its perch and could sink Titanic off the top spot as the biggest film of all-time. And that’s exactly what Cameron delivers: big. Michael Bay is no doubt seething with jealously and plotting something even, er, bigger.

Avatar grabbed $68 million dollars in its first three days in the US and Canada alone. The Hollywood Reporter have it that it will finish earning around the $500 million…again, this is restricted to the US and Canada. It has already been confirmed as the fastest film in history to rake in $1 billion. These figures will have Fox and Cameron laughing themselves silly. Once again, Cameron shows he is only in competition with himself. It also shows that special effects-driven flicks pay-off like nothing else. Fox distribution exec, Bert Livingston, announced:

“This is like a freight train out of control. It just keeps on going.”

Just like Titanic, no matter what critics and dissenters say about the quality of the film’s story, Joe Public are willing to stump up cash to be dazzled by Cameron’s “sky flowers-like” effects. Is the man King Midas or the Grim Reaper? Sometimes it is difficult to tell. He could be Ozymandias: “look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”
