Beware The 4th Reich

The 4th Reich“…The mother of all zombie films…”

Now that’s a quote I can really sink my teeth into. It turns out the film in question is called The 4th Reich. A British production scheduled to start filming in spring next year. What we have on our hands here believe it or not is a historically accurate war film with zombies.

It turns out that Hitler’s chief scientist, Dr Joseph Mengele is charged with creating an army of invincible soldiers. This army was to known as The 4th Reich. His horrific experiments based in the concentration camps of Auschwitz, Belsen and Birkenau end up creating an evil beyond anybody could have ever imagined.

We follow a small group of soldiers led by the tough Captain Bathurst as they fight their way through wartorn France. As they venture deeper they reach an abandoned research facility where they come face to face with unspeakable evil.

It’s a brilliant synopsis and I am genuinely excited about this one. It has an inspired bit of casting with Sean Pertwee playing Captain Bathurst and the legendary make-up effects artist and actor Tom Savini. Combine all of the above with the fact that the film will be shot in glorious 3D and my friends, I think we have winner here!

Official Synopsis — June 1944, after the glorious victory on D-day, the armies of the combined allied forces begin their long push to Berlin with the aim of bringing down Hitler and the despised Nazi regime of the Third Reich.

But buried deep in secret files German Reichstag, is the chilling reality of Hitler’s plan to create an eternal living hell, The 4th Reich.

Dr. Joseph Mengele, Hitler’s chief scientist, was charged with creating a new super army of invincible soldiers. A force that would never be beaten. His experiments and research at the death camps of Auschwitz, Belsen and Birkenau would create unspeakable evil.

A small brigade of soldiers from 3rd Infantry Division, under the command of the battle hardened Captain Bathurst embark on an ever darkening quest to liberate Europe. Fighting their way through the French countryside, villages and war ravaged towns. Each step discovering progressively strange battles and events until they reach an abandoned research facility where the true horror begins…

Director Shaun Robert Smith is no stranger to the war genre or indeed the nazi experiment genre having directed the hugely popular short The Soldier back in 2007. The short won numerous awards and has now resulted in this project being made.

If Shaun Robert Smith can impress with almost no budget there is no telling what he can do with a bit more money behind him.

The film is already generating buzz all over the Internet and as time passes I can only assume the anticipation will reach boiling point. Head on over to the official website at www.4threichmovie.co.uk.

Bring it on Shaun!

So you're telling me, zombies, Nazis, and 3D? I must be dreaming. I've been jonesing for a good new zombie movie! Thanks for the heads up, I'll certainly be eagerly anticipating its release!

Oh, and if you're looking for entertaining zombie movies, SKIP Zombie. Yes, the title is just Zombie, which is fitting, because there is only one, and it just walks around, and people largely do not even notice it. Totally pointless.
