Barbarella Remake A Go!

barbarella-fondaJoe Gazzam has been signed to pen a new version of the 1968 film Barbarella, which originally starred Jane Fonda as the space-age-sex-kitten and launched her into super stardom.

Robert Luketic is attached to direct the film with original producer Dino De Laurentiis signed on to produce.

The original 1968 film, saw highly-sexed spacegirl Barbarella on a mission to save the galaxy 40,000 years from now from the evil Durand Durand. The semi-naked character debuted in 1962 in a French graphic magazine written and illustrated by Jean-Claude Forest and was known for her sexual escapades. There also was a musical produced in 2004.

Sources suggest that the rebooted character will lose it’s campy vibe, while retaining the sexuality and seductiveness that immortalised the character in the original. The project is not yet attached to a studio but Dino De Laurentiis plans on shopping the script around once it’s been finalised.
