Torchwood Update – Captain Jack Is Back

When Captain Jack last graced our screens in Torchwood: The Children of Earth, things were not what you might call “rosy.” He had caused the death of his own grandson, his partner, Ianto was dead and his daughter had all but disowned him for putting others before his own grandchild. The solution to these small hurdles was for Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman), to leave Earth, leaving fans wondering if they’d ever see him again.

The good news is that Barrowman has confirmed recent reports that Torchwood would be back for a fourth season…and so will Captain Jack!

“I don’t know about Capt. Jack’s future in ‘Doctor Who,’ because nothing has been said or I haven’t been asked. I’m kind of prepared that I won’t be in any of it, which is fine, but ‘Torchwood,’ we are discussing the future of ‘Torchwood’ because most definitely ‘Torchwood’ will come back to the BBC.”

The news that Barrowman might not be making a return to Doctor Who is no real surprise. With David Tennant bowing out this Christmas after 3 seasons and a series of specials, newcomer to the role, Matt Smith with have plenty on his plate before the supporting cast event get a look-in. Perhaps Jack could make a return in 2011?

Back on the subject of Torchwood, Barrowman also seemed certain that the BBC were dropping the 5 episode miniseries format in favour of a full 13 episode season:

“We’re not sure when” it will happen, he continued. “We need to work out the logistics of the filming, but it will be 13 episodes rather than five.”

As always check back for more Torchwood/Doctor Who news, oh and I’d expect series 5 to hit UK screens no later that Summer 2011, although here’s hoping for 2010!

The Green Hornet Goes Imax 3D

The news that Michel Gondry’s Green Hornet film will be mainlined through our eyeballs and into our delirious brains in glorious 3D and Imax is definitely worth shouting about.

The release has been knocked back a few weeks to 14th January, 2011 in order to give itself some breathing space from other titles. Good call? You betcha! Some dude called Greg Foster – Chairman and El Presidente of Filmed Entertainment seems very excited, saying in the press release:

“We’re excited to welcome Michel Gondry to the list of acclaimed directors who have released films into the IMAX network and we believe his innovative creative vision will play very well in IMAX. This film is ideally suited to our fan-boy audience, and in IMAX 3D, they will be transported into the world of The Green Hornet.”

There were rumours of studio discontent with Gondry and his methods, but the quirky film-maker soon dismissed such idle talk and internet chatter. The Green Hornet stars Seth Rogen and Jay Chao as Britt Reid and his side-roundhouse-kick Kato who team up to do battle with a crime boss played by Christoph Waltz. Cameron Diaz plays the love interest.

Who wants to bet The Green Hornet will be the best film released on 14th January?

First Official Trailer For The Runaways

The first teaser trailer has been released for Kristen Stewart’s latest flick – The Runaways. Having debuted over at MTV, we have a copy right here for your delectation.

After the success this year of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and last year’s first installment, it would be something of an understatement to say that Kristen Stewart is a superstar. Sharing the stage with the young vampire lover are Twilight’s own volturi bitch Dakota Fanning, on-screen serial killer, Michael Myers’ long suffering sister Scout Taylor-Compton and Alia Shawkat.

The story of the groundbreaking ’70s female rock group the Runaways is recounted in this River Road Entertainment production focusing on the duo of guitarist/vocalist Joan Jett (portrayed by Twilight’s Kristen Stewart) and lead vocalist/keyboardist Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning) as they navigate a rocky… road of touring and record label woes under the malevolent eye of an abusive manager during their teen years. Acclaimed video artist Floria Sigismondi directs from her own script, with Scout Taylor-Compton co-starring as guitarist Lita Ford.
