Jennifer Aniston Scream 4 Rumour Laughed At

Apparently Star Magazine set tongues wagging earlier with the surprising news that Jennifer Aniston would be appearing in Scream 4 in blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo as a favour to former Friends co-star Courtney Cox Arquette. Yeah, and Joey, Chandler and Ross all appear in a dream sequence too!

Dimension Films immediately quashed this rumour and that Aniston is one hundred per cent not appearing in any way, shape or form.

So that’s one spurious news item obliterated into the grand void of movie nothingness! Sure the original Scream took 1980s icon Drew Barrymore and gutted her in the opening sequence, but such post-modernist flourishes are so 1990s. We’re in alter-modernist times now people. Or a post-post-post-post-modernist era (for extra irony).

Star Magazine heard news of the cameo allegedly from Aniston herself. But what Aniston was asked, heard and answered could have been a whole variety of things and not necessarily what Star Magazine wanted to hear. Anyway, proper casting has continued with Lake Bell, Rory Culkin, Hayden Panettiere and Emma Roberts recently announced as the next generation of Scream kids battling a malicious bastard with a knife.

Scream 4 will be released on 15th April next year. Can’t wait. Although will expectations kill it? Kevin Williamson better had written an amazing script!

News just in: Matthew Perry has been cast as Iron Man/Tony Stark after Robert Downey Jnr walks from the franchise.

Charlotte Gainsbourg Teams Up With Lars Von Trier (Again!)

It’s been known for a month or so that Lars Von Trier’s has been working on a disaster movie called Melancholia. The Danish auteur asked Penelope Cruz to take the lead role, but after viewing Breaking The Waves, Dancer in the Dark and Antichrist, she kindly said, “no, thanks.”

French site, Allo Cine, have it that Antichrist’s Charlotte Gainsbourg (an actor and singer who once did a duet with her famous father, Serge, called Lemon Incest) has plucked up the courage to accept the role instead, there’s no word yet if feminist-baiting self-mutilation is involved again. This is a first for Lars von Trier, who rather strangely has never worked with the same actress twice…wonder why that is, Lars?

Melancholia’s financial set-up is as dry as a very boring lecture on wicker basket making in 1770s Cornwall, but it’s a typical von Trier European co-production set up involving several countries, such as France, Germany, Denmark and their mortal enemy, Sweden… okay, maybe not mortal enemy.

Zentropa Ent. have released a solitary piece of concept art which depicts Earth being shadowed by a larger planet called Melancholia. Is it a metaphor? There are no other details of any kind other than it’s been called a, “psychological disaster movie”, it’s got a 10 million euro budget and Trier has been screaming at the press, “no more happy endings!”

Can’t wait.

Finally – Teaser Trailer For A Nightmare On Elm Street

The first trailer has now been released for Platinum Dunes’ and New Line Cinema’s remake of iconic horror – A Nightmare on Elm Street, starring Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner, Katie Cassidy, Thomas Dekker, Kellan Lutz and Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger.

The new trailer demonstrates how close director Samuel Bayer has opted to stay to the source material, with classic scenes such as Nancy in the bathtub and the “ceiling drag” appearing to be almost a carbon copy of the original. Also included in the new trailer are a look at Freddy pre-burn and post-burn.

Freddy is also sporting new makeup for his scarring, which can just about be made out in the screencap below. Without a proper head-on look I can’t be certain, but judging from the pic below I’m not too keen on the new look at this point.

Oh well, despite the makeup change, the trailer is pretty good, and further shows that this remake has thrown all the cheesy cliches out of the window in favour of a darker, more sinister atmosphere.

A Nightmare on Elm Street hits UK theatres in Spring 2010, check out the Freddy screen cap and trailer below:
