New Set Pictures From Captain America: The First Avenger

Given Marvel’s master plan of bringing all of it’s homegrown comic-book properties to the screen in one big shindig (The Avengers in 2012), the success or failure of Captain America: The First Avenger is pivotal to the outcome of said plan. It’s a big property in Marvel’s arsenal, but having said that it’s also very American, will overseas markets respond favorably? Hopefully but it’s food for thought.

With that in mind we have some new set pics from Captain America but wait for it – these pics are from London’s own Trafalgar Square! Well everyone love London so that okay then, success is practically guaranteed!

The pictures bring to life one of the happiest days in world history – VE Day, otherwise known as Victory in Europe Day or the day when the Nazi’s lost and we celebrated one of the world’s most evil dictators taking a bullet in his temple (I always knew I should teach history). Take a look at the images below, courtesy of WENN who seem to have gotten a little watermark-happy with their snaps:

Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy’s earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment… Operation: Rebirth.

After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the Super-Solider Serum and bombarded by ‘vita-rays.’ Steve Rogers emerged from the treatment with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human. Rogers was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program. Three months later, he was given his first assignment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and battle savvy, Captain America has continued his war against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and as leader of the Avengers.

The Future’s Bright, The Future’s PIXAR!

The Internet is buzzing at the prospect of information regarding a new PIXAR project. It seems that during a featurette for Up while Greg Dykstra shows off one of his many character models for the film there happens to be some very interesting concept art which has gotten all the fans all in a flutter!

The concept art in question consists of a young boy and a dinosaur.

The image was first spotted by the eagle eyed folks at Pixar Planet. Rumours started flying around and questions have been asked as to what it can be for. One thing is for sure, it’s not for Toy Story 3 as Ronnie Del Carmen confirmed via Twitter when he was asked if he knew what the mysterious art was for.

“I do but not telling. Nothing to do with anything Toy Story, tell you that”

Ronnie Del Carmen was a storyboard artist on Ratatouille so I think we can take his word for it. Chances are that this particular curiosity on the walls over at Pixar studios is most probably for a short. Either way anything Pixar related is always going to generate interest and I guess only time will tell. For now let’s just hang a big question mark over this one.

Friday The 13th Sequel Gets An Official Release Date

The next movie in the Friday The 13th series has received an official release date, and yes…you’ve guessed it! It will be on Friday 13th August 2010!

The last film, released in cinemas earlier this year topped the US box office during its first weekend with $42m (£26m) in ticket sales.

The sequel will be titled simply Friday The 13th Part 2. It’s said to be a big landmark for the franchise, because it’s actually the 13th film in the series ever to be made.

In the last movie, five teens – Wade, Ritchie, Amanda, Mike and Whitney travel to Camp Crystal Lake on the hunt for marijuana where the group is brutally murdered by Jason Voorhees. Six weeks later, Whitney’s brother Clay goes to Crystal Lake searching for his missing sister, distributing flyers with Whitney’s picture on it to the locals. Clay eventually discovers the shocking truth about Crystal Lake and Jason Voorhees. It’s a full on, bloody horror that’s not for the faint hearted.

Producer Brad Fuller has said that the character of killer Jason was even more “clever” this time around in the way he kills his victims.

The ending of the 2009 film left the fate of survivors Whitney (Amanda Righetti) and Clay (Jared Padalecki) open to interpretation and to date, it has not been confirmed if they will return for this sequel.

There is also much speculation amongst fans that Tommy Jarvis, a character from three of the older films in the franchise, will be making his long awaited return to Crystal Lake in this next installment, as he is considered the arch-enemy of Jason Voorhees.

So….to celebrate the movie, here are “13 interesting facts” about the Friday 13th movies:

1. The noise known as “Jason’s Theme”, (which plays before something bad happens) sounds like “chi chi chi ha ha ha”, but is actually “Ki Ki Ki Ma Ma Ma.”
