Torchwood: The New World: Casting And Shooting Updates

It’s seems a world ago that the BBC and Starz Entertainment announced the title of the long awaited fourth series of Doctor Who spin-off, Torchwood, but already pre-production seems to be getting well under way on the adult sci-fi show.

Torchwood: The New World is set to premiere sometime in 2011 – most likely the Summer – and the show promises to feature a more Americanized slant on the classic series. Along with the return of show regulars Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) three new faces will be added to the team, C.I.A. agent Rex Matheson (a part rumoured to have recently been turned down by Lone Star actor, James Wolk), Agent Esther Katusi and the newest addition, surgeon Vera Juarez – who according to Deadline has recently been cast! According to recent reports from the site, Crash actress Arlene Tur will be joining the show as recurring character surgeon Juarez. This leaves the two roles of Matheson and Katusi as the only remaining leads (that we know of) that haven’t been cast.

In other Torchwood news, John Barrowman has recently expressed his excitement of moving to Los Angeles to shoot the US leg of Torchwood: The New World. Speaking during an interview with The Chris Moyles Show, the actor said:

****

“We’re filming in Wales and Los Angeles as it’s a co-production now with the BBC and the Starz Network. I’m very excited.”

“It’ll be worked out where we’re doing the chunk of filming in the Cardiff area prior to going out and then we’ll film our chunk in Los Angeles.”

Get Some Social Skills – New TV Spot For The Social Network

Money is sexy. There’s no denying that as far as money goes, it is alluring, seductive and a powerful aphrodisiac. Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook would have had this in mind as he was propelled towards his first billion dollars, making him one of the hottest catches on campus, but it’s also worth remembering that when all was said and done, Zuckerberg was also a nerd. Yup, sexy nerd, there ya go.

This new TV spot for The Social Network features Zuckerberg, played with relish by Jesse Eisenberg, and serves as a little reminder that without all that cash, Zuckerberg was just another geek on campus. Take a look below:

Tran Anh Hung’s “I Come With The Rain” – Trailer And Release Date

It’s always interesting when a director tells you not to see his film. But Tran Anh Hung told me this last month. I Come With The Rain is a moody neo-noir detective story which segues into stranger territory. It stars Josh Harnett and Elias Korteas.

There were post-production issues which saw Tran and his financiers in court. Not the most pleasant way to end what is a dream project for its director.

Originally set for release on 25th March, the film’s UK release date has shifted to the end of April and will make its debut on DVD and Blu-ray from 2nd May. You can read our review of the film here. Below we have cover art for Blu-ray and DVD, synopsis and trailer.

Synopsis:

“I COME WITH THE RAIN is a brutal and compelling story of ex-Los Angeles cop turned private eye Kline (Hartnett), who travels to Hong Kong in search of Shitao (Kimura), the missing son of a Chinese billionaire. Enlisting Meng Zi (Yue), a friend and former colleague now working for the Hong Kong police, Kline follows a faint trail left by the ethereal Shitao. The path leads to local gangster Su Dongpo (Byung-hun) and his beautiful, drug-addicted girlfriend Lili (Tran Nu Yen Khe). But Kline is distracted from his search, haunted by memories of the serial killer Hasford (Koteas), whose ‘body of work’ was the reason Kline quit the police force…

Director Tran Anh Hung (Norwegian Wood, in cinemas 11 March) describes I COME WITH THE RAIN as “a baroque action film, a passionate thriller, both intense and poetic, haunted by three figures from the mythology of film and of the western world: serial killer, private investigator and Christ like figure. In this movie, the flesh will be both frightening and splendid”.

UK Release: 22nd April
Blu-ray/DVD Release: 2nd May
