Tommy Lee Jones To Join Captain America?

He’s a much respected actor and famous grouch, and he’s not adverse to appearing in the occasional blockbusters, either. But according to UGO, the Texan star is currently in “talks” to take a role in Joe Johnston’s First Avenger: Captain America.

There’s nothing confirmed, nor denied about Jones’s involvement, but it’s fairly obvious he’ll be playing a military general or something befitting his age and experience. He’d certainly bring some much needed gravitas to proceedings.

Marvel’s latest film to head into production sees Chris Evans’ soldier turned into a superhero to fend off the dreaded Nazis and The Red Skull (Hugo Weaving). Director Johnston originally wanted an unknown to take the role but following the dictum of Donald Rumsfeld, Marvel and he went for a “known unknown that we know about”. Evans, of course, played Johnny Storm in Tim Story’s fun by much loathed Fantastic Four films, but he’s hardly a mega star…yet.

It’s been rather quiet on the Tommy Lee Jones front of late, he won praise for his role in No Country For Old Men, but what since? There’s still the important matter of Men In Black 3 to clear up. Will he or won’t he be returning? I’d hazard a guess and say he’ll turn it down.
