Wolverine Director Heading For Alaskan Adventure

USA/Slow news day thus far so here’s a piece on Gavin Hood’s latest film adventure. Who? He directed a little movie last summer called X-Men Origins: Wolverine. And no, he’s not been sent to Alaska because Wolverine was rubbish. The South African Oscar winner seems to have had enough of big effects-a-thons for now and is currently, according to The Hollywood Reporter, mulling over the idea of making a movie about a team of dogs in Alaska who ran across the state to save Timothy Treadwell from being eaten by a bear. Okay, the last part is totally made up! Instead, the dogs are rushing to the rescue (bit like Eight Below) in order to bestow an antidote to cure a diptheria outbreak in the outer reachers of Nome.

The whole episode is based on a book entitled The Cruelest Miles: The Heroic Story Of Dogs And Men In A Race Against An Epidemic. Says what it does on the tin, right? Although that will probably not be the title of the movie. Ice Dogs sounds cool. They should call it that. So there’s courageous dogs, a disease, harsh weather conditions including fog and minus 60 degree temps, and twenty men shouting “mush! mush!”

Hood is looking to sign on and begin filming in the summer (when it will be warmer and they’ll recreate the harsh conditions with CGI and the magic of the movies…wimps).
