Me And Orson WellesWhen he’s not being ridiculed for his participation in the hugely successful High School Musical series, eye candy Zac Efron is working hard to become a serious actor. Having appeared recently alongside Leslie Mann in 17 Again, Efron is due to take up his third non-musical (dare I say serious?) role in The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud later next year.

Meanwhile of course, Efron is starring in his second serious role, and it’s one which promises to capture film fan’s imaginations like no other due to the filmmaking legend who is the subject matter – Me and Orson Welles.

To celebrate, FilmShaft have been sent a selection of fantastic new audio interviews for Me and Orson Welles, featuring director Richard Linklater and Zac Efron, Christian McKay and Claire Danes, and to sweeten the deal they’re UK exclusives.

Starring McKay as the legendary theatrical director and cinematic genius Orson Welles and Zac Efron as the young upstart, Richard Samuels, Me and Orson Welles lands in UK cinemas on Friday 4th December. You can take a look at Ed’s review here for the full low-down and don’t forget to book your ticket!

‘Me & Orson Welles’ is set in the exciting world of the New York Theatre. Teenage student Richard Samuels (ZAC EFRON) lucks his way into a minor role in the legendary 1937 Mercury Theatre production of Julius Caesar, directed by a youthful Orson Welles (strikingly portrayed by newcomer CHRISTIAN McKAY).

Over the course of a magical week, Richard makes his Broadway debut, finds romance with an ambitious older woman, and experiences the dark side of genius after daring to cross the imperious, brilliant Welles. Richard has to grow up fast.

  1. Pam says:

While the High School Musical films are dismissed as light, fluffy Disney confections, they're still entertaining and Zac Efron is the reason why. He's been a “serious” actor for quite a while now, and it's unfair that he's forever having to prove himself worthy of his next role. His performance in “Miracle Run” (years before HS Musical) is a testament to his giftedness as an actor. I'm an adult – not a teeny bopper – and I think his poignant performance in that film rivaled DiCaprio's in “What's Eating Gilbert Grape.” Let's face it, if the guy were homely, he wouldn't be so scrutinized.
