Forget “The Happening” for a second and lets remember that when director M. Night Shyamalan gets it right, he REALLY gets it right. So here’s hoping his writing skills are as good as his directing skills because Universal Pictures have just cast Chris Messina to star in DEVIL, a new horror-thriller based on a Shyamalan story.
Shyamalan will join Sam Mercer as producer on the picture, which is the first in a three picture deal struck between the hit-and-miss director and Media Rights Capital to create “Night Chronicles“, a series of genre pieces being released over a period of – you guess it, three years!
According to Variety:
Brian Nelson (“30 Days of Night”) wrote the script. The Dowdles will be exec producers.
Plot’s being kept under wraps, but sources said Messina plays the lead role of Bowden, a sobered-up homicide detective. Messina most recently starred in “Julie and Julia” and “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.”
The film will be directed by John Erick and begins production in Toronto on 26th October.
