Sophie: A Dark Angel – A Lesson We Can All Learn

Sophie_960_1205350254I just had to write about this the moment I finished watching it. It’s a message I feel needs to be heard and one I hope will be taken seriously.

While walking through Stubbylee Park in Lancashire with her boyfriend in 2007, Sophie Lancaster was brutally attacked by a vicious mob. She suffered severe head injuries and went into a coma. Sadly, Sophie never regained consciousness and later died from the attack. Sophie had committed no crime to suffer such punishment, she was murdered simply because of the clothes she wore, because she was a Goth.

Yesterday would have been her 23rd birthday and to mark the occasion the premier of an animated film took place in Manchester. The 2min short depicts the tragic events that took place when Sophie lost her life just because she looked different. The film is called Sophie: A Dark Angel and can be seen on YouTube and we’ve included a copy below.

While watching this moving film I couldn’t help but feel huge levels of hatred and sadness and I urge everyone to see it for themselves. It is a haunting piece of short cinema that I can honestly say is one of the most powerful set of images I have ever seen.

If you are touched by the message the film brings across then show your support and help stamp out prejudice, once and for all. Visit The Sophie Lancaster Foundation for more information

This is a plea for tolerance in a world filled with intolerance.
