Stellan SkarsgardThough Alexander Skarsgard may have lost out on Thor to Chris Hemsworth, his father, actor Stellan Skarsgard has managed to make it onto director Kenneth Branagh’s call sheet according to sources.

While the actor’s exact role remains a mystery, he has told Swedish site, Ystads Allehanda a little about the circumstances of his casting:

“They wanted me to sign [a contract] without reading the script. That I refused to do. Then they sent one to me that was so coded that I could only print one copy.”

Stellen has a history of playing mythological characters, the 58 year old starred in 2004′s King Arthur as Saxon leader Cerdic, 2005′s Beowulf as Danish king Hrothgar and he also featured as “Bootstrap” Bill in the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

Very little is known about the plot at present, but it’s believed that the movie will follow comic book canon and see Thor exiled to earth where he builds a life for himself as Donald Blake before rediscovering his true lineage.

The actor joins a stellar cast in the Marvel film, including Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander and Brian Blessed, the film is due out in 2011.
