Martin Scorsese is often said to be America’s greatest living filmmaker. Truth be told, they’re right. The man lives and breathes cinema. Even after all these years, he still loves the medium with a passion that resonates off the screen. Since Leonardo DiCaprio took the baton from Robert De Niro as the director’s leading man of choice, they’ve collaborated on Oscar winner after Oscar winner. The Departed finally saw the “littlefella” from NYC picking up something that allured him all his life: the Academy Award for Best Director. Back together again, Scorsese and DiCaprio reunite for the delayed psychological horror, Shutter Island.
The film is based on the novel by Dennis Lehane and looks set to be a crazy mix of Val Lewton and Alfred Hitchcock. Alongside DiCaprio is Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley and Emily Mortimer.
