When it comes to the Alien and Predator franchises, they’ve both had their share of knocks. Starting with the fantastic Predatorin 1987, the series went on to have a so-so sequel before finally being united on the big screen alongside it’s Xenomorph cousins for the dreadful Alien vs. Predator in 2004 and Alien vs. Predator – Requiem in 2007.
Both properties now have new productions in the works, Alien duties are being handed to the visionary director behind the original - Ridley Scott, and for the Predator prequel, PREDATORS, we have “Armored” director, Nimród Antal. Speaking to Coming Soon, Antal was eager to put fans’ collective minds at rest, and thankfully he’s answered one of the most pressing Predators questions in the process, yes, the film will be R-Rated:
…he did confirm that Predators was being shot to be an R-rated film, so if nothing else, that should make a lot of fans happy in the long run.
Fans have apparently been at the forefront of the director’s mind during the process. Given Hollywood’s utter disregard for fans of late, with half-baked sequels and cock-eyed remakes, Antal’s attitude towards the whole process is actually very refreshing:
“I think that the fans who may have been underwhelmed by the last two AVP films, I think they’re in for a very pleasant surprise,” he told us tentatively when asked how it was going.
“I think we both recognize that the original film was as good as it was because of the practical, because it was a guy in a suit, because it was the jungle, so we stay true to that. We were in Hawaii for a month in the jungle, so there’s going to be some pretty impressive locations.”
