Predators Director For New Spider-Man?

I’ve been ranting and raving about Nimród Antal since I saw his excellent debut feature, Kontroll, a few years ago. He’s since proved himself adept at genre pieces on a medium budgets and worked his way to the top of the Hollywood heap. He’s directed snuff movie thriller Vacancy and this month brings bang-crash-smash heist flick, Armored. In other words: he’s a man on fire (not literally, but talent-wise!) Next up on the slate for the American-Hungarian is a little film called Predators. Roll on July! And in a piece of spurious rumour (probably), Slashfilm, have it that Sam Raimi himself wants the man to take over directing duties on the new adventures of Spider-Man. It went down something like this (according to Quiet Earth):

“Sam Raimi met Nimrod on the Sony lot before his first US film, Vacancy. They clicked, so Sam hired him to direct Armored. Now, Predators is getting some great word-of-mouth around tinsel-town. Warners loves it and now Sam Raimi and Sony want the director back at the studio to helm Spider-Man.”

Looks like Marc Webb, touted earlier this week as the main man, has got a rival. Whilst Webb’s 500 Days of Summer was downright lovely, surely somebody like Antal has got a better résumé? It obviously wasn’t working between Raimi and Sony. It’s very apparent in the chaotic mess that is Spider-Man 3. Alas, the Webbed-Wonder returns in 2012 for further adventures and somebody’s got to make it! Wait…what’s that? News just in: Joel Schumacher’s available. (Macauley Culkin face) Arrrrgggghhhh!
