Nicolas Cage Turns Bath's Christmas Lights On!

cageAs everybody’s favourite (stressful) time of the year approaches, it’s time for a bit of Christmas-related news. Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage last night bestowed upon the historic city of Bath his glowing A-list presence, and turned on their Christmas lights.

Whilst this is nothing compared to Colin Firth and Jim Carrey’s recent duties in central London (promoting A Christmas Carol), there is something ever so nice about Cage’s decision to spread a little Christmas cheer and goodwill in one England’s most picturesque cities. It is reported a local resident of the city wrote to him and enquired if he’d be up for the gig. Well, if you don’t ask, you don’t get!

There is a less tenuous link here as Cage owns two homes (and a castle) in the city and Somerset, so he’s obviously a fan. Upon getting on the stage and being introduced, he announced:

“Thank you citizens of Bath, citizens of Somerset, for your kindness and your graciousness in welcoming me to your beautiful community. I wish you all prosperity in the new year, not just in your work but also in the love you share with your families.”

Dressed like a mafia hitman in long overcoat, suit and sporting a grey goatee, Cage thrilled residents of the city with his autograph-signing, picture-taking and general awesomeness.

Aisling, get a grip. The Premiere of ACC was in London, therefore, they had the actors who were in it do the Christmas Light switch on. As for Colin Firth not being able to act, I suppose you are all into action movies. CF does a lot of Indie films and is well known everywhere, except the US. Not taking anything away from Cage, he is a good actor but, the Oscars are a popluarity contest. It isn't the measure of an actor or his career. Henry Fonda didn't get an Oscar until he was 77. You can't say he couldn't act.
