New Moon “Hopes To Up The Male Demographic”
The Twilight Saga: New Moon director; Chris Weitz has said that the Twilight film in the franchise will be more appealing to men this time around – because of Taylor Lautner.
Speaking to Empire magazine, the director expressed his interest in the male audiences reaction to what he said was more of an “ordinary guy”:
“There is also a male character, Jacob, who is inherently a more viable character for most boys because he’s like an ordinary guy. He works on cars, whereas Edward [Robert Pattinson] is a perfect man, and maybe he only appeals to perfect men. That makes the demographic rather small! So there’s more of a way into this one – we do hope to up the male demographic!”
As well as the buffed up “ordinary” werewolf come sex-symbol Taylor Lautner, Weitz has also made a point of promising more action in this second installment, due in theatres 20th November:
“You’ve got the werewolves coming in,” said Weitz, “and the effects are going to be great on that part of the movie. Also, there’s more fighting and that should appeal to the boys.”
With literally millions of screaming girls all chanting for Twilight, the only untapped resource that Summit Entertainment have left is the male demographic. And while I can’t see many guys going willingly to see New Moon, I would imagine that a fair few will be dragged along to the cinema by their girlfriends – so hopefully the promise of more action and man-child Taylor Lautner will take the sting out a little!
