Julian McMahon 1Fantastic Four villain, Julian McMahon, is in discussions to join Summit Entertainment’s all-star action thriller, Red, based on the Wildstorm/DC Comics miniseries being directed by Robert Schwentke.

Joining the tinman are Ernest Borgnine, Richard Dreyfuss and Brian Cox, all of whom are also in talks to join the star-studded pic.

Red tells the story of a retired black ops agent (Bruce Willis), whose hard earned rest is disturbed when a younger team of black ops assassins show up to kill him.

McMahon will play a corrupt CIA Vice President at the centre of a vast conspiracy, Borgnine is in line to play record keeper to some of the CIA’s darkest secrets and Dreyfuss is in line to play a wealthy businessman, made rich by lucrative government contracts. Cox is a former Cold War spy and nemesis of Willis. The actors are all set to join a top notch cast including Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John C. Reilly and Mary Louise Parker.

According to THR:

Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing, while DC’s Gregory Noveck exec produces with Jake Myers. Jon and Erich Hoeber wrote the script. The film is scheduled to begin shooting early next year.

McMahon is best known for starring in FX’s “Nip/Tuck.” The actor, repped by UTA and ROAR, also played Dr. Doom in Fox’s “Fantastic Four” movies.

“Red” marks the 92-year-old Borgnine’s first role in a major feature in quite some time; the Oscar winner and Bensky Entertainment-repped actor has been appearing in Hallmark movies such as “A Grandpa for Christmas” and making TV appearances for the past decade.

Red is expected for release back end of 2010.
