Mary Elizabeth Winstead Takes Part In The Thing Remake

winHeat Vision Blog have it Mary Elizabeth Winstead has joined the Thing remake. Whether or not her character actually “joins” the morphing, grotesque alien is another “thing” entirely. See what I did there? Chances are, since she’s the biggest name, she’ll get to endure the horror and live a long and productive life in a mental institute. Although the film’s timeline is set before events in John Carpenter’s masterpiece, this is still a sequel…even if it’s trying to convince us otherwise. We don’t need to know what happened to the Norweigans since it happens to the Americans!

Winstead has been cast as the lead character, a hot PhD research student, who journey’s to the Antarctic to do some, er, research, before encountering some seriously weird and terrifying shit! Will there be a scene where she is forced to remove all her clothes because “they’ve been contaminated”, thus revealing some sexy underwear underneath? We’ll be taking bets now.

Joel Egerton (Uncle Lars in Stars Wars prequels) has also been announced as joining the film. Matthijs Van Heijningen is directing a script by Battlestar Galactica’s Ron Moore and Eric Heisserer. The Thing begins filming next month in Vancouver for release in 2011.
