Well, kind of. Heat Vision Blog have reported “Malkatraz” has jumped into John C. Reilly’s role has a CIA assassin in Robert Schwentke’s DC comics adaptation Red. Filming begins in Toronto this week. It all seems very last minute, but the German director’s latest could be absolutely bonkers (in a good way). Did you ever think Bruce Willis would team up with Malk? Me neither. Joining the two baldies is a wonderfully eccentric band of actors, including the likes of: Helen Mirren, Brian Cox, Morgan Freeman, Ernest Borgnine (yep, he’s still going), Mary-Louise Parker and the baddie from Fantastic Four (Julian McMahon). It sounds positively insane!
The film’s plot sees two old CIA agents discovering they are on a hit list and the next generation of way cooler young assassins are out to get them. Will Schwentke’s film have its tongue firmly in its cheek whilst providing crash-bang-wallop-what-an-action-scene-type stuff? With such a brilliant selection of acting talent this could be the finest “serious actors being silly” movie since Con Air.
And heaven’s knows Bruce Willis needs a hit after Surrogates and its great seeing Malkovich signing up for an action movie again. Cyrus the Virus will go down as one of the greatest movie villains of all-time.
In other Malkovich-related news, he confirmed rumours he has been offered the role of the next Spider-Man villain in the postponed film. During an interview on Italian television, he admitted he’s going to play the Vulture. No word yet on whether Anne Hathaway will join him.
