Heavy Rain: How Far Would You Go?

Heavy-Rain-10Those of you into the world of gaming will already be familiar with a new Playstation 3 title called Heavy Rain. Billed as a totally immersive gaming experience Heavy Rain is essentially an interactive movie. However the words ‘interactive movie’ only serve to sell the whole project short.

In reality Heavy Rain is both groundbreaking and astonishing. I’ve played it and anyone who has also had the extreme pleasure to do so already will back me up on this. My jaw literally hit the floor when I stepped into its world. Just as Avatar has forever changed the face of modern filmmaking, Heavy Rain has completely revolutionised gaming. Stunning graphics and a compelling murder mystery combine to create a world that you can get lost in from the comfort of your own home.

Heavy Rain’s underlining theme is simple and complicated at the same time. Dealing with issues that range from anger, morality, sanity and most importantly that most powerful of all human emotions… Love.
In conjunction with the release of Heavy Rain, acclaimed and controversial director Neil Labute has brought together a range of famous faces to appear in a short documentary called How Far Would You Go?

This 7min project features interviews with Peter Bogdanovich, Nicholas Roeg, Samuel L. Jackson, Nicholas Hoult, Ben Chaplin, Chris Weitz and Stephen Frears among others talking about what love means to them personally, how love and hate have played parts in their lives and exactly how far they would go for love?
It’s truly wonderful watching these people be totally honest infront of the camera. As humans’ love has the power to make us do things we wouldn’t normally do. The greatest achievement that this short documentary has attained is the fact that it raises more questions than it initially asks: Could you kill for somebody you love?

I know for a fact that if anything really bad ever happens to my girlfriend or the closest members of my family at the hands of another human being, there isn’t much I wouldn’t do to make the person responsible pay. Am I really claiming to have the courage to murder someone? Does this make me a bad person? If one day I am faced with this situation, could I really go through with it? Does this make me less human or more human?

So tell me, How far would you go?
