Finally! Riddick Film Begins Scouting Locations

Riddick Slice Next to Todd McFarlane’s never-ending Spawn project, the third part in The Chronicles of Riddick sequel has to be one of the most anticipated non-moving projects ever. Having heard only tid-bits on the project for the past two years, Riddick 3 is one of those films that you almost forget was ever in the pipeline to begin with. However it looks like that could all be about to change as Vin Diesel confirms that they are now scouting locations for the shoot!

Making the announcement on this Facebook page, the 42-year-old actor posted just one sentence, announcing what Riddick fans have been waiting to hear since 2004′s The Chronicles of Riddick:

The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already… that’s exciting.

Fortunately, by the time filming begins I’ll be just a short $200 plane trip away from NZ in Melbourne, so I’ll definitely be waiting in the wings with my camera, hoping that their scouting mission goes well. But what does this mean for a series that seems to have stalled in recent years?

Unfortunately not a lot, after all scouting is not a guarantee that we’ll be seeing a production any time soon. However as he points out in past interviews (here and here), Vin Diesel and writing partner, David Twohy prefer not to rush things:

“Everyone knows I love the Riddick character and I’m always working on it. It just takes five years to make another one because David Twohy and I are so precious about it.”
