Fantastic Four Reboot Confirmed!

fantastic fourRegular readers will remember that this has been discussed since way back in March, they may even remember that the prospect of a darker film reared it’s head back in June, well now it’s official – Fox are rebooting FANTASTIC FOUR!

With Disney’s acquisition of Marvel still sending fanboys into a tizzy, it’s worth remembering that they do not hold all the cards just yet! Fox still own the movie rights to some of Marvel’s key characters, The X-Men, Fantastic Four, Daredevil and Silver Surfer to be precise. And for as long as Fox continue to churn out films, the rights will remain safe from The House of Mouse, so does it come as any surprise that this announcement has come now?

Variety reports that Akiva Goldsman has been brought on board to produce the film, with “Heroes” producer Michael Green penning the script. Fox has not shared any of their plans at this point, but it’s largely believed that a new cast will be brought in and the film will be a reboot rather than a sequel, as speculated earlier this year.

Marvel’s franchises are safe at this point with their respective studios for as long as they continue to make movies out of the properties, Marvel remain on board as a producer and financial participant through a licensing agreement however.

For real? Is it really necessary to reboot this franchise when it is already not that bad? They can use the money for another big project, like the Black Panther or Luke Cage with John Singleton directing. I think this is a waste of time and money. We already have two Fantastic Four films. Why start it all over again when you can just continue with the story line. If the developers are worried that the second installment stunk, all they need to do is make sure that part 3 is hotter than hot! I think that makes a lot more sense than rebooting the whole franchise.
