If, like me, you were left feeling a little hard done by with the so-so X-Men: The Last Stand then how about some good news? It seems that the series’ original director and the man arguably responsible for the comic book movie revival, Bryan Singer will be making a return to the series!
It was on the blue carpet for Avatar’s LA premiere that Singer dropped the X-bomb, telling reporters he’d signed to direct Fox’s X-Men Origins: First Class. In fact, to quote the man himself:
I’m prepping up to do a movie called Jack the Giant Killer [at] Warner Brothers, and I just yesterday signed a deal to do an X-Men First Class Origins picture, which is kind of cool.
So now you’ve taken in the news, fanboys and girls, what can we actually expect from “First Class?”
Well it’s safe to assume that story canon will be going straight out the window, and it’s pretty much a given that Scott Summers aka Cyclops will be making an appearance, most likely being played by Tim Pocock who played the role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine earlier this year. However the only other clues have come from exec producer, Lauren Shuler Donner who has previously said of the project:
So it’s young Scott, young Jean, young Beast and that’ll be really fun. I think (the plan) is to follow some of the characters into their own stories, and weave them back into the X-Men world. And hopefully First Class will become its own franchise and we can follow them as they grow up.
Anyhow that’s enough waffle for one day, check out the footage below of Singer’s interview, courtesy of Ustream:
