Breck Eisner’s The Crazies is out next Friday (26th Feb). I saw it on Monday evening, but can’t put the review out until the day of its release because of a signed embargo. I can tell you it’s good and definitely NOT a turkey. Anyway, people are already asking what Eisner is up to next. He ditched a project recently in order to concentrate on another horror remake – this time, David Cronenberg’s The Brood. It also turns out he’s working on a “dream project” entitled Flash Gordon. Oh, and he wants to shoot it in 3D. Talking with Fear.net he discussed The Brood and other stuff. Specifically on The Brood, it seems it is still in development. Eisner said:
“I like the script, and I like the guys at Spyglass Entertainment who are doing the film. I am a big fan of the original, and that is one of the issues for me. I have to really think about it and do a gut-check and see if I feel that this is one that really should be remade.”
Could Eisner be the man to resurrect Flash Gordon and banish the camp 1980 version into the cinema version of Room 101? Eisner explained where he’s up to with the whole thing:
“It has nothing to do with the camp of the 1980s film or the serials. We looked back to the Alex Raymond comic strips from the 1930s and imagined the film as if Raymond were still alive today, drawing those comics. The movie is intense, there is action and adventure, it is dynamic and it is off-world. It will definitely focus on the lead character, Flash Gordon. It’s more of an origin story for Flash Gordon. We intend to shoot it in 3D if we get to that point.”
Sounds like Mr. Breck Eisner is a busy man with a lot in development. Will his dreams come true? Will The Brood remake really happen? Stay tuned…and come back next week for my review of The Crazies! Read the full interview with Fear Net here
