Now that it’s no longer “just a rumour” and he’s signed on the dotted line, Bryan Singer has discussed his plans for X-Men: First Class. Whilst he hasn’t actually said very much, the director, talking to Heat Vision Blog said:
“It’s basically about the formation of the X-Men. How they began and the relationship between a young Xavier and a young Magneto.”
What does this mean for the long-mooted Magneto movie? Will it be dispensed with all-together and co-opted into X-Men: First Class? Singer commented:
“This story would probably utilize some of the Magneto story because it deals with a young Magneto, so it might supersede that because this would explore that relationship between a young energetic professor and a disenfranchised victim of the Holocaust.”
For fans of X-Men (including this writer!) the knowledge and confirmation that Singer is returning to the franchise he launched (and abandoned, grrr) is excellent news. However, don’t expect X-Men: First Class to begin filming until 2011. Singer’s next flick is Jack the Giant Killer and it remains the plan.
“Right now that is the plan. Unless there’s a problem in the development process. There is a script for “Jack”; we’re in visual development. We’ve got artwork and pre-viz that we are doing. But you never know how things go.”
