Andy Serkis Joins ‘Burke And Hare’

serkisI’ve been keeping an eye on this project since first hearing about it. I can’t wait for John Landis to return to the big screen and Burke & Hare is right up his street. The story of two murdering grave robbers is black comedy gold and who better to helm such a film but Landis: the genius that gave the world An American Werewolf in London and Thriller.

Casting news on Burke & Hare has been a big issue over the past few months. With Simon Pegg already attached all eyes were on who would be his partner in crime. For a while the name on everyone’s lips was Nick Frost. An obvious choice but ultimately not a very original one. We thought the news regarding David Tennant supposedly being cast was solid and although the prospect of a Pegg and Tennant pairing was considered brilliant casting it now seems that Dr Who is out and Gollum is in.

According to Simon Pegg on Twitter, David Tennant is out but Andy Serkis is in. With Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis already acquainted what with both of them having worked on Spielberg’s’ Tintin project I have to admit I most definitely prefer this pairing than the previous Pegg and Tennant duo. Hopefully both actors will stay attached and we can all look forward to some 19th century grave robbing. Landis is deep into pre-production as we speak and shooting is set to start next week. I can’t wait for this one. It has the potential to be incredible.
