Anchorman 2 Two Years Away

anchormanDirector Adam McKay has revealed that the sequel to Anchorman will be going ahead in around two year’s time.

It’s great news for all Will Ferrell fans, who enjoyed watching the original comedy about a 1970’s newscaster.

McKay admitted that the cast and crew have discussed ideas for the update, but aren’t letting anything on about possible plot threads. He told MTV:

“We have an idea, we love it, we’ve talked to the cast and they all love it. It’s all about the scheduling now.”

McKay and Ferrell recently re-united to work on The Other Guys, which in turn has contributed to the delays in bringing why Anchorman 2 to the big screen:

“We’re doing this movie, so that knocks us to another year from now,” McKay said of when “Anchorman 2” will start filming. “Maybe we’ll start writing the script during post on this. Movies take awhile, so probably the closest you would ever see it happening is two years from now.”

Producer Judd Apatow and co-star Paul Rudd had previously said the Anchorman 2 storyline may be set ten years later in Ferrell’s character, Ron Burgundy’s life, in the 1980s.

For those of you who don’t know, the first movie starred a news-reader called Ron Burgundy, who had to adapt to co-starring with a woman co-host in a new feminist culture.

So why was the first film so successful? Perhaps the theme of a guy’s struggle between spending time with his girlfriend or his mates is one many men can relate too? It was a brand new, fresh kind of comedy, that had ‘layered humour,’ so however many times you saw it, you would probably notice something different each time.

This opens up the obvious question, Will the sequel ever be able to live up to the first film? Should Ferrell even be contemplating a sequel to arguably the most popular film he has ever done?

Further details will no doubt be revealed in the near future, but until then we will just have to wait and see.

As on of the few who didn’t find the Anchorman to be that funny part of me hopes that a second doesn’t go ahead. But then bringing him into the 80s is a tantalizing idea and may actually prompt me to see it when it finally comes out. As for whether Ferrell should do a sequel boils down to whether he feels that the humour won’t be too repetitive and won’t be just a rehash of what’s gone before. Somehow I think it will be just a rehash of old jokes.

This article's grammar is horrible, but if Rachael's avatar is actually a picture of her i guess I can forgive her.

Is Rachael not aware of the use of the apostrophe? I suggest a remedial English course as part of her degree.
