A Closer Look At Freddy From Nightmare On Elm St Remake

Published on November 25, 2009 by Craig Sharp   ·   View Comments

Freddy KruegerWhen the trailer for Platinum Dunes‘ remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street landed back in Septemberwe were given a little glimpse at the new look for one of the most iconic villains in horror – Freddy Krueger, played this time around by Jackie Earle Haley. At the time FilmShaft managed to blow up a still from the trailer which gave us a slightly clearer look at Freddy’s “more realistic” appearance as a burns victim, but somehow it still wasn’t the full reveal we’d been hoping for.

Well today folks it’s time to get another look at everyone’s favourite crispy killer… in the the shape of a new action figure.

The ultimate(ly plastic) reveal came first over at STYD, who got the chance to talk to Randy Falk of the collectibles company NECA about the line:

“Yes, we have re-acquired the rights to Freddy and Jason. Michael Myers is not part of the New Line franchise but we do have the classic Michael Myers rights as well. We are working on figures from the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street and at least two figures will be out for the release of the film with possibly more to follow. We have also begun work on a definitive classic original ANOES Freddy to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Elm Street franchise. There will be more news on both Jason and Freddy come Toy Fair.”

The figure itself isn’t half bad, we’ve included the new shot below alongside our original film still, click on the figure’s thumbnail to check out the full pic. Personally I prefer Freddy’s classic look, but let me know what you think.

Plastic Fantastic?

  1. Ryan says:

It looks like they've lost the lankiness of the Robert Englund version of Freddy…thank God because that was one of the few things that made this character less fearful. I also like the eyes, none of them are quite right and I can't wait to see how the director decides to use that in the movie to make him scarier! This is a step in the right direction for me.
